What Does BMW Head-Up Display Do?

BMW Head-Up Display projects data directly into the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to keep their attention on the road and to process information up to 50% faster. BMW Head-Up Display shows information such as speed, rpm, navigation instructions and Lane Guiding, depending on which BMW model and options you choose. BMW models equipped with BMW Night Vision can leverage the BMW Head-Up Display to alert you when pedestrians are in the road as well. Additional technologies that can work with BMW Head-Up Display include Collision Warning, Speed Limit Info and the status of Active Cruise Control.

How Does BMW Head-Up Display Work?

The BMW Head-Up Display system uses a small projector and a system of mirrors that beam high-contrast images onto a translucent film on the windscreen. Images are projected directly into the driver’s line of sight, and appear about two meters away, making them easy to read and process. BMW Head-Up Display has adjustable height for optimal viewing, and produces full-color images in many newer BMW models. Drivers can control their BMW Head-Up Display output through the iDrive Controller.
