Frequently Asked Questions

6 common questions answered

Is the oil filter replaced every time a 2024 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe has its oil changed? The oil filter should be replaced with the oil when the service calls for oil and filter replacement.

The filter captures debris carried by the oil and can load over time. Reusing it across separate oil changes leaves the same filter handling additional contaminants. The appropriate service timing is determined by the manufacturer's maintenance schedule, vehicle use, and service history.

  • Filter replacement accompanies the oil service.
  • Captured debris remains in a used filter.
  • Stop-and-go driving can make regular maintenance especially relevant.
What is included in an oil filter replacement on a 2024 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe? The service includes an engine-matched filter, a new drain plug gasket or washer where required, and a leak check after the engine runs.

The filter is selected for the engine actually fitted to the 2024 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe. The sealing item is renewed where the engine uses one, and the filter seal is checked after operation. The oil is replaced as part of the oil and filter service.

  • Filter matched to the engine's specification.
  • New drain plug gasket or washer where applicable.
  • Leak inspection at the filter seal after running the engine.
What happens if the oil filter on a 2024 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is not replaced?A loaded filter can open its bypass valve, allowing oil to circulate without filtration.

The engine continues receiving oil, but it stops receiving filtered oil. Debris captured by the filter can contribute to a less effective filtration process as the filter loads. An oil-pressure warning or an engine that sounds noisier than usual should prompt an inspection.

  • The bypass valve may open when the filter loads.
  • Unfiltered oil can circulate through the engine.
  • An inspection can assess warning signs and service history.
Does a 2024 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe need a specific oil filter?Yes, the filter is matched to the engine, and filters are not interchangeable across engines.

The 2024 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe may use a 2,998 cc, 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine or a 4,395 cc, 4.4-liter eight-cylinder engine. Those different engine configurations require the filter selected for the engine actually installed. The service team can match the filter during the appointment.

  • 3.0-liter displacement with six cylinders.
  • 4.4-liter displacement with eight cylinders.
  • Filter selection follows the installed engine.
Can the oil be changed on a 2024 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe without changing the filter?Oil can be drained and replaced separately, but the oil filter should be renewed when the service calls for oil and filter replacement.

The filter holds debris removed from the oil, and that material remains in a used filter. Replacing both together restores fresh oil and a fresh filtration element. The manufacturer's schedule, an inspection, and the vehicle's service history determine the appropriate maintenance work.

  • Used filters retain captured debris.
  • A fresh filter supports clean oil circulation.
  • The engine configuration determines the correct filter.
